Robert Blakey Interview

(11/22/81)

Blakey was Chief Counsel and Staff Director

to the U.S. House Select Committee on

Assassinations from 1977 to 1979, which

investigated the assassinations of John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King

Jr. under the direction of Louis Stokes. Blakey also helped Stokes draft the

President John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Collection Act of 1992. He

and Richard Billings, the editor of the final report of the committee, would

later write two books about the assassination.

The Next Chapter

On January 19, 2025 I ended production of Beyond the Beltway — which began in June of 1980 on WBEZ/Chicago as a 13 week radio experiment. The Program over the years covered the activities and antics of every president from Jimmy Carter to Donald Trump. There were wars, assassination attempts, and a terrorist attack on the World Trade Center and Pentagon. We were there for it all— providing a listening post for people from coast-to-coast who wanted to comment on the actions of their government. We were fair and balanced. On this site, you will find many historic discussions in the Beyond the Beltway series— in addition to lesser-known content from a wide variety of shows early in my Radio career. Highlighted interviews will be showcased on our homepage and will change from time to time. Also, new contemporary episodes of my podcast will drop periodically. I hope you enjoy! Bruce DuMont

Frank Church Interview

(1970s)

Church gained national prominence during

his service in the Senate through his

chairmanship of the U.S. Senate Select

Committee to Study Governmental Operations with Respect to Intelligence

Activities from 1975 through 1976, more commonly known as the Church

Committee, which conducted extensive hearings investigating extra-legal

FBI and CIA intelligence-gathering and covert operations involving

organized crime.
